Who we are

Phil Critchlow ’“ Founder / Director

A multi-award winning senior programmer and board director, Phil has developed and realised some of the highest profile broadcast projects in the UK and internationally.

Over 20 years in the industry he has developed a specialism in Music & Entertainment and been responsible for thousands of hours of output across many platforms including all of the BBC Radio networks, 300 commercial stations worldwide and major online projects.

He began his career as a trainee with the BBC in 1986. After working as a Studio Manger and Producer across the 37 language sections of the World Service he joined the Radio 5 launch team. Following production in many areas of BBC network radio, and presentation on Radio 5, he moved to Unique Broadcasting in 1994, rising to Director of Programmes in 2002. Under his management the team developed output for all of the BBC terrestrial and digital networks, as well as leading major networked projects on commercial radio. These included The Pepsi Chart, which grew by almost 2 million listeners under his direction, and syndicated daily comedy and entertainment strands.

In general entertainment he has worked with some of the highest profile names in the business. In music he’s produced all genres from full symphony orchestras to big bands and the worlds biggest rock and pop acts, ranging from Elton John to U2, Paul McCartney to Quincy Jones, Coldplay to Lily Allen and Blur to Elbow.

Phil set up TBI Media in May 2006 :

‘When I started in radio it was clear that things were going to change, but the revolution has proved to be more profound than we could ever have imagined. One thing that remains constant though is the need for great content. Every media platform needs bold and ambitious ideas ‘“ fundamentally stories of all kinds, told with integrity, passion and enthusiasm – that’s what we’re in business to provide’.
